George Woronzow Lamb
- Baptised: 25 Feb 1808, Parish Church of Rye,
Sussex 1
- Buried: 9 Aug 1816, Rye, Sussex 2
George's second forename, Woronzow, was
probably given to him in honour of Countess Catherine Woronzow
(1784-1856) and her brother Prince Mikhail (1782-1852), who were
witnesses at George's parents’ wedding. The name was an anglicised
spelling of the family name of the Russian diplomat, Count Semyon
Vorontsov, Ambassador to England in the late 18th and early 19th
century who was Catherine's and Mikhail's father. Catherine married the
11th Earl of Pembroke, George Herbert, in 1808.
The name must have been rather prized by the Lamb family because it was
used by John and Julia (née Lamb) Allen for their firstborn son a
generation later.
