This tablet was erected to their pious memory by their son John Henry Furse.

John Henry Furse son of P.W. and Mary Furse died Aug I. MDCCCLIV aged LIX. It is interesting to note that the date Mary Furse's year of death on this plaque is 1846 when the correct year was 1845, at least her death was registered as occurring in that year. Moreover, had she died in December 1846 she would have been 87 years old and not 86 as is recorded on this plaque. Perhaps her son John, when he came in later years to erect the plaque, made the mistake or possibly the mason carving the inscription slipped in the extra numeral.

On his retirement he came back to live in his native town and wrote a book entitled "Sketches of Field Sports as followed by the Natives of India", the frontispiece, taken from a drawing by his niece, Anne Elizabeth Palmer, afterwards Mrs. W. E. Price. The book is unique in having been entirely printed and published at Torrington, and the greatest part composed by a child not more than eight and a half years old, Caroline Fowler, a daughter of the printer; surely a remarkable feat of perseverance in one so young.".
