James served with the Cameron Highlanders and
later practised as a civil engineer before becoming 7th Baronet of
Scatwell when the 6th Baronet, Sir James John Randoll Mackenzie, died
in February 1884 without leaving issue; James's two uncles, Colin and
Mark, having died unmarried. 6
James married Julia Stanley Clutsam, daughter
of Dr Samuel Joseph Clutsam, MD and Unknown, in 1858 in Bahamas.1

Marriage Notes:
James and Julia had six children:
James Kenneth Douglas Mackenzie (1859-1930), later 8th baronet of
Scatwell; Alice Nancy Mackenzie (c. 1861-1917); Julia Marion Mackenzie
(c. 1863-1881); Louise Augusta Mackenzie (1865-1944) who married her
cousin Arild Rosenkrantz in 1901; Lillian Geraldine Mackenzie (c.
1870-1935) and Evelyn Mackenzie (c. 1875-1957).
